There are three ways to renew an NBI clearance: in the eGovPH app, through NBI online renewal with delivery, or at an NBI branch. If nothing about you has changed, the first two let you renew without an appointment. If something has changed, such as a new surname or a correction, or your last clearance was issued in 2014 or earlier, you renew at a branch.
Whichever way you choose, the fee is the same ₱130, and the renewed clearance is valid for one year from its new issue date. What changes is the delivery or convenience fee, how fast you get it and what you need to bring.
| eGovPH app | NBI online renewal | Branch renewal | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who can use it | Verified eGovPH users with no changes | Clearance issued after 2014, no changes | Anyone, including people with changes |
| What you need | A verified eGovPH account | The NBI ID number from your old clearance | An appointment and two valid IDs |
| Total cost | ₱160 pick-up; ₱360–₱510 delivered | ₱355–₱360 in Metro Manila; ₱505–₱510 elsewhere | ₱155–₱160 |
| How you get it | Pick-up or delivery, plus a digital copy | Courier delivery in about 3–10 working days | At the branch, the same day if there’s no HIT |
We are not the NBI. This is an independent guide. Renew only through clearance.nbi.gov.ph or the official eGovPH app, and never pay a fixer.

Which way should you renew?
Find your situation. If more than one applies, the one higher up wins.
| Your situation | Best way to renew |
|---|---|
| Your name, civil status or another detail has changed | Branch renewal, with the PSA document that proves the change |
| Your last clearance was issued in 2014 or earlier | Branch renewal |
| You need the clearance today | Branch renewal; it’s released the same day if there’s no HIT |
| You lost your old clearance | Try the eGovPH app first; if it can’t find your record, go to a branch |
| Nothing has changed and you have your old clearance | eGovPH or NBI online renewal, whichever suits you |
| You live abroad | NBI online renewal to an address in the Philippines, or the embassy route |
Between the two no-appointment options, eGovPH is cheaper if you can collect the clearance yourself (₱160), and it gives you a digital copy. NBI online renewal suits people who don’t have a verified eGovPH account.
Renewing in the eGovPH app
Since 6 July 2026, verified eGovPH users can renew an existing clearance on their phone. In the app, go to NGAs, then National Bureau of Investigation, then NBI Clearance. Check your details, choose pick-up at an NBI clearance center or delivery, and pay. The renewed clearance also appears in the app as a digital copy.
Most of the effort goes into verifying your eGovPH account first, using your National ID number and a live selfie. Our guide to renewing your NBI clearance on eGovPH walks through the verification and every screen.
Renewing online with NBI delivery
On clearance.nbi.gov.ph, choose NBI Clearance Online Renewal, enter the NBI ID number printed on your old clearance, add a delivery address in the Philippines and pay. The courier usually arrives within 3–7 working days in Metro Manila and Luzon, and 7–10 in the Visayas and Mindanao.
It only works if your last clearance was issued after 2014 and nothing has changed, because it reprints the details already on file. Here’s our step-by-step NBI online renewal guide, with screenshots of each screen.
Renewing at an NBI branch
A branch renewal works like a new application. You log in at clearance.nbi.gov.ph, update your details if anything changed, book a branch and pay ₱155–₱160. At the branch, staff take a new photo and fingerprints, and if your name has no match in the NBI database, you leave with the clearance the same day.
It’s the only option when something has changed, and often the fastest when you need a clearance in a hurry. Our guide to renewing at a branch with changes lists the documents for each kind of change. Married women switching to their husband’s surname have their own guide to changing your last name on the NBI clearance.
When should you renew?
You can renew whenever you need a newer clearance. Each one is valid for one year from its issue date, and a new one gets its own full year, so renewing early doesn’t waste anything. Some employers and embassies also ask for a clearance issued within the last few months, even if your current one hasn’t expired.
There’s no late fee. If your clearance has already expired, you renew it the same way and pay the same amount.
If your name has been flagged before, give yourself two to three weeks. A HIT on your NBI clearance usually adds 5–10 working days, and a name that matched once can match again.
Lost your old NBI clearance?
You can still renew. The eGovPH app looks up your record through your verified account, so the steps don’t ask for your old NBI ID number. NBI online renewal does need that number, but a branch renewal doesn’t.
If you want to try online renewal anyway, the number may still turn up in your old emails or files. Here’s how to tell your NBI ID number from a reference number so you use the right one.
Renewing from abroad
If your last clearance was issued after 2014 and nothing has changed, NBI online renewal works from anywhere, as long as the clearance can be delivered to an address in the Philippines. A family member receives it and sends it on to you. If that won’t work, or you need new fingerprints, see our guide to getting an NBI clearance from abroad.
Renewal mistakes to avoid
- Renewing online after a name change. Online renewal and eGovPH reprint your old details, so a new surname won’t appear.
- Typing the reference number instead of the NBI ID number. Online renewal needs the NBI ID number printed on the clearance.
- Opening a second NBI account and paying twice. Log in to your existing account for a branch renewal.
- Leaving it to the last week. A HIT or a courier delay can take longer than you expect.
- Using look-alike sites or fixers. Only clearance.nbi.gov.ph and the official eGovPH app process renewals.
