To pay for your NBI clearance with Maya, choose Maya as your payment option on clearance.nbi.gov.ph and copy the reference number the portal gives you. In the Maya app, tap Bills, choose Government, then NBI. Enter the reference number and the exact total, usually ₱155–₱160, and confirm. Maya texts you a confirmation, and your application changes to Paid once the payment is posted.
Check the reference number twice before you confirm. Maya says a bills payment can’t be reversed once it’s confirmed, so a typo can cost you the fee.

Which one fits depends on how you’re applying and where your money is.

The Maya app is the one most people use, so it comes first.
How to pay with the Maya app
Six steps take you from booking to a Paid status. Step 1 is on the NBI portal, Steps 2 to 5 are in the Maya app, and Step 6 takes you back to the portal.
Step 1 — Get your reference number from the NBI portal
Log in at clearance.nbi.gov.ph, finish your application and book a branch, date and time slot. When the portal asks how you’ll pay, choose Maya, read the pop-up instructions and continue until the portal shows your reference number and the total. Screenshot both. Step 2 — Make sure your Maya Wallet has enough
You’ll need the full total, usually ₱155–₱160, plus any convenience fee Maya shows. If your money is sitting in Maya Savings, move what you need to your Maya Wallet first. Transfers between your own Maya accounts are free. You can also cash in from a bank or at a partner store.
Step 3 — Open Bills and choose NBI
In the Maya app, tap Bills on the home screen. Choose the Government category and select NBI. If it isn’t easy to spot, search for NBI.
Step 4 — Enter your reference number and the amount
Fill in the fields Maya asks for:
- Reference number: the NBI reference number from the portal, copied exactly. The field may be labelled account number.
- Amount: the exact total from the portal, not just the ₱130 fee.
- Contact details, if asked, so the confirmation reaches you.
Don’t enter the NBI ID number printed on an old clearance. It’s a different number and won’t match your application; here’s the difference between the NBI ID number and the reference number.
Step 5 — Review carefully, then confirm
Maya shows a summary with the biller, reference number, amount and any convenience fee. Since Maya can’t reverse the payment once you confirm, this screen is your last chance to catch a mistake.
Your checklist before you tap confirm
- The biller is NBI.
- The reference number matches your screenshot from the portal, character for character.
- The amount matches the portal’s total.
- Your Maya Wallet balance covers the amount plus any fee.
Step 6 — Save the confirmation and check for Paid
Maya shows a confirmation screen and sends you a text message. Screenshot the confirmation, then log in at clearance.nbi.gov.ph and open Transactions. Your application changes from Pending to Paid once the payment is posted.
On the day of your appointment, bring your reference number, proof of payment and two valid IDs the NBI accepts.
Paying in cash at a Maya Center agent
Maya Center agents are neighborhood stores and small businesses that offer Maya services over the counter, and the NBI is one of the billers they can take. It’s a handy option if you don’t have a Maya account or would rather pay in cash. Choose Maya as your payment option on the portal first, so you have the reference number to bring.
What to bring
- Your NBI reference number, as a screenshot or written down clearly.
- The exact total from the portal, plus the store’s service fee, which varies by biller.
- Your mobile number, so the payment confirmation is sent to you.
Before you leave the store
- Check that the reference number and amount on the confirmation are correct.
- Keep the receipt or text confirmation until you have your clearance.
- Check the portal later that day or the next for the Paid status.
Not every agent offers every biller, so ask first. If there’s no Maya Center agent near you, you can also pay in cash at a 7-Eleven store.
Paying with Maya in the eGovPH app
If you’re renewing in the eGovPH app, you pay inside the app instead of using a reference number in Maya. Choose Maya at the payment step and follow the prompts to approve the payment. How much it costs to pay with Maya
The NBI fee doesn’t change with Maya. You pay the ₱130 clearance fee plus an e-payment charge of about ₱25–₱30, so ₱155–₱160 for a new application or a branch renewal.

How long before the portal says Paid
Posting depends on the biller, which is why Maya advises paying bills a few days ahead. For your NBI clearance, that means paying at least a day or two before your appointment, not on the morning itself.
Many payments show as Paid quickly. If yours still says Pending on the next working day, go through the fixes below. Once it shows as Paid, you have 15 days to visit the branch you booked if your plans change; see what happens if you miss your NBI appointment.
Maya payment problems and how to fix them
Maya shows the payment as failed
The money wasn’t sent, and Maya returns the amount of a failed payment to your account. Check your balance, then try again.
Maya says it went through, but the portal still says Pending
Give it until the next working day
Log out of the portal and back in to refresh the status. Many payments simply need more time to post.
Check the reference number on your receipt
Compare the reference number on your Maya confirmation with the one on the portal. If they don’t match, see the next problem.
Contact Maya, then the NBI
In the Maya app, go to Profile → Get help to chat with support or submit a ticket, or call Maya on (02) 8845-7788, daily from 8 AM to 7 PM. If Maya confirms the payment went through, contact the NBI clearance helpdesk at (02) 8524-1277 or 0939 150 2880, with your receipt ready.
You confirmed the wrong reference number or amount
Maya can’t reverse a confirmed bills payment, so report it to Maya and the NBI helpdesk straight away, with your receipt. If your appointment is close, you may need to pay again with the correct details while they look into the first payment.
NBI isn’t showing under Government
Search for NBI in Bills and make sure your Maya app is up to date. If the biller is temporarily unavailable, try again later or use another payment channel the portal offers.
Maya asks you to upgrade, or you’ve reached a limit
You don’t need to upgrade just to pay bills, but Basic accounts have lower monthly limits. If the app blocks the payment, you can upgrade in the app with a valid ID and a video selfie, or pay another way.
Maya or GCash: which should you use?
